Paging Doug Graham Can't Post

Hi Doug,
You (I think) once told what you set your minidisc record level at when placed on groom. Could you repeat? I have a Sharp md-sr60 which does not have auto level.
(This forum could sure use a search and archive)
Thanks
dougG

Not me! I've got an opinion or a comment on most things, but I just used my MD myself for the first time a few weeks ago. I chickened out and set it on auto.

Doug,
I set mine about half way to avoid clipping and it works out pretty well, Anthony

I hope it worked well in auto. I avoid the auto setting on my Sony as the AGC kicks in. I usually do a test with my own voice, talking quite loudly. That does the trick. Not one groom has ever talked that loud and ministers and rabbis are far enough away should they have a great set of lungs.

MD-SR60 minidisc levels [In reply to] Can't Post

dougG,
I have 3 MD-SR60's and love them. I use 2 with the $20 azden mic with the right angle 1/8" plug. On those, I set the grooms recording level at 16, and the officiant's level at 12 (they tend to talk much louder). This is always in "mono" mode. With these levels, you get great vows, and can even go with simply the groom's and pick up the officiant really well if they decline to wear one. I've never had one decline yet, but if they do I should have adequate audio from the groom's settings.
Also, I have a 3rd that I place on the podium for readers, and I use a "T" mic from www.soundprofessionals.com. I use the 15 setting for it.
Never a problem with clipping from these settings.

Re: MD-SR60 minidisc levels [In reply to] Can't Post

I too chickened out and used auto. Most of it came out
OK but there was some clipping...arrgh!
What do you set it at for receptions? I would like to
put one on the DJ's speaker so that I don't have to worry
about individuals. Let it all go through the DJ's system.
But I'm thinking that the loud speakers will cause clipping
in auto.
Any suggestions?
