Premiere Slo-Mo Can't Post

A few weeks ago, someone posted a trick to make slo-mo shots smoother in Premiere. It involved copying the video and placing it on another track off set by a frame or something like that. Can anyone help? Thanks. Marc

Use FRAME BLENDING to smooth slo mo. Select a clip and choose CLIP from the menur bar --> VIDEO OPTIONS --> FRAME HOLD --> click the box for FRAME BLENDING.
I think this does something similar to what you mentioned but this is a bit easier.

Re: Premiere Slo-Mo [In reply to] Can't Post

Both of these work "OK" - however, if you're going down to 25% it's still going to look alittle jerky. Premiere just can't do slo-mo that slow and have it look great. Make sure that you're deinterlacing also. My hope is that it's one of the things they work on for Premiere 7.

Just tried your suggestions and in my opinion it looks worst than before. do you have to select de-interlace and frameblending? or just one, and then the other, or what?
I tried all possible ways, from just applying the de-interlace feature, to just applying the framebending feature, etc.

In my opinion, ordinary slo-mo is as good as it gets in Premiere. Frame blending never impressed me either.

Re: Premiere Slo-Mo [In reply to] Can't Post

Ya know...I just remembered my Matrox RT.X100 card probably has something to do with my slo mo quality. I'm pretty solid even at 25% but the video makes a lot of difference. How fast are the subjects moving, how much zoom am I using, etc.
Judy has a good point. Once you get down to 25% it's tough to get good slo mo. I use Frame Blending alone but try to stay 33% or more. It seems to me that we are locked in on 30 FPS and there is only so much you can do with it. Good luck

Jim also has a good point. 33% or more will work better. Your other options are to shoot at a faster speed than 30 FPS (if you're using a camera that will do this). Make sure your shooting something that is already moving kind of slow. And make your camera moves slow.
In other words if you're trying to slow down horses racing and you've moved the camera to follow the action as they run past you....your slo-mo is going to be jerky.
I have a Pinnacle DV500 card and it doesn't really help me much with slo mo so I'm careful about which clips I use. My husband (the continual shopper) has been trying to get me to get a Matrox RT.X100 for the past two months. However, I'm a penny pincher so I'm waiting for the DV500 to wear out! :)

Judy,
While you're waiting for your Pinnacle DV500 to wear out and all that rendering you could be using the NO Render solution of the Matrox RTX.100 with the no wait for rendering.
Best,

This method works pretty well. Apply the Quicktime effect, Brightness and Contrast, but do not adjust any settings, just select OK. It will smooth out the slo-mo.

Re: Premiere Slo-Mo [In reply to] Can't Post

I bought a license for the Twixtor plug-in for Premiere 6.x. The results are amazing but the render time is 1sec per frame on 1 1.2Ghz Athlon with 1Gb RAM and the technique in Premiere using virtual clips is less than appealing when you're trying to sync music to video clips. The license cost me $399US.
I just attended the Adobe Maximum Impact Tour seminar which is featuring Premiere 6.5 and the Matrox RT X100. The hardware/software combination does slow-mo, realtime previewing with up to 16 layers, realtime MPEG2 encoding and many other great things all for $1000US. Well worth the $$$.

Re: Premiere Slo-Mo [In reply to] Can't Post

Try this trick in premiere. It takes some rendering, but the slo-mo is really good.
1. create a new folder for your clip
2. export your clip as a "targa sequence" to the new folder
3. import the new sequence by selecting the first still.. Then checking the "numbered stills" box.. and click "open".
4. In your timeline, replace the old clip with the new "Targa sequence".
5. Apply the speed of %50. You can try others, but %50 has given me the best results.
6. Render the clip and check your results.
This is a little time consuming but has a good look. It also takes a little more space for the clips, but it's been worth the work for me.
