Problems with UV lens filter on VX2000 Can't Post

I've just started noticing a lens flare problem on my VX2000 anytime it is pointed roughly in the same direction as a strong source of light, such as the sun, or a bright light bulb ... the Tiffen UV lens filter I am using seems to create this glare that goes from a full circle covering the middle portion of my viewing area, to a partial circle ... obviously I try to shoot away from bright light sources but it isn't always possible. I noticed the problem goes away when I take off the lens filter. I've cleaned the filter thoroughly with a lens cleaning cloth and lens cleaning fluid but it doesn't seem to help much.
I don't have this problem with my TRV-900, which is using a Hoya UV filter. Are Tiffen filters inferior?
