Projection services , need a new screen Can't Post

For those who do SDE's or any other projections at the reception, I have several bookings to show at receptions and it would be cheaper to purchase a screen than to keep renting. ( I allready have the projector) What screen brand. make, model, format and screen sizes are you using? Also any good deals you can pass along... Thanks

You can get a decent projector for $700. I can't see how continually renting one would be cost-effective, especially if you have many upcoming uses for a projector.

I'm going to be getting the Da-Lite Insta-Theatre 100" from B & H. It's only $500.

If you have used other kinds of screens but never used the Insta-Theatre you are in for a treat. YOu can have this thing tucked away behind the DJ booth and then when it comes time for the SDE have it set up in less than 20 seconds. YOu just stick it place, open up the case, and raise the screen from the floor. Boom! Ready to go.

Be careful with the insta theatre if using it outside though....it's nothing but a big sail.. Bring some sandbags like they use for light stands if using outdoors.

I imagine most screens become a big sail. Good tip.

Re: [mbr] projection services [In reply to] Can't Post

hmmmm....it says 80 X 60 inches, which is not 16:9, so I may need to rethink this. B & H has a crazy selection of this stuff so I'm sure I'll find something I'm happy with.

Glen Elliott offered to sell me his but then somebody who has been trying to get me to join the local GPVA contacted him and now he hasn't gotten back to me. Great way to make a good first impression if you wanted me to join. I think I'll pass on next week's meeting.

Another vote for the Da-Lite InstaTheater. It sets up and tears done in a minute. Literally. They also come in 16x9 format. Get the carrying case. Makes t much easier to transport.

I mostly want to know what size everyone is buying . I was looking at either getting a 7 or 8 footer (84 or 96) in width.. I drive and expedition so I can transport both.. Anyone here use Elite Screens and know how they hold up?

Earl, that looks like scaffolding. Do you wash the windows at the reception hall as well? Wink

How long does that take to set up?

Re: [Kenneth] Projection services , need a new screen [In reply to] Can't Post

10 mins, if I take a relaxed pace; five if I hurry.
Set up left t-stand, right t-stand, open frame. Snap on top and sides of screen to frame, raise one end of frame and attach with turnbolts to t-stand, go to other end, raise to level desired to match previous end, attach to t-stand with turnbolts. Finish snapping bottom of screen to get it stretched - when cold requires a bit more pull.

From the minute I arrive until I am tested and ready to provide service with player, cables taped down for safety, projection stand and system connected, it takes 20 minutes by myself. I can live with that.

I've seen, and had experience with the various other forms with the tripod-like feet, the flat self-store stand that often has to be raised to accommodate long rooms, the other permutations. For sturdy, self-standing/supporting, choice of heights, I'll go with the t-stand style. At outdoor venues we use water jugs or sandbags on the extended feet to secure the screen. It gets REALLY windy here off the beach, but we've never had a ripped screen or blowdown when precautions are taken.

And I don't do windows - architecturally or PC Cool

Re: [corelann] Projection services , need a new screen [In reply to] Can't Post

That's too long for my taste. The 6 brides I have booked for the SDE have all said they don;t want the guests to know anything before it's shown. With the Insta-Theatre it took 30 seconds to drop the screen in front of the DJ booth, open it and raise the screen to full height. My asistants moved the projector table (pre-setup) into place while I did the screen. They got it to the right level and in focus in about the same 30 seconds.

The DJ made the announcement and we were wowing the audience within 90 seconds.

I use the DaLite InstaScreens (or whatever they're called) as well. They are great - they literally take 5 seconds to open, raise, done....there's practically nothing to it. Well worth it for sure, but the post about outdoors and wind; that's a good question.

That's what I use ... the 100" screen. I usually have the venue make an 8 ft draped table available and I'll put it on that for some extra height when needed.

Yeah ... no way could I take it outside. Shocked

Re: [mbr] Projection services , need a new screen [In reply to] Can't Post

I have two..depending on size of venue etc.

i have the DaLite 8' tripod and i also have a 16:9 Draper fast fold 7 x 12'.

Dalite is about $300. Draper about $1K.

Showing footage on the draper is much more desirable but its much harder to set-up.
