Go to the supermarket and buy two cans of baked beans and a small length of string, tie string to cans then connect one can to groom and the other can to camera (remember to remove beans) :-)
Seriously though perhaps consider a MD recorder as often recommended by this list untill you can raise the cash for a good mic system. As you probably realise this is not a area you want to skimp on.

The mini disc idea is a good one, but there are times when you are going to wish you had a wireless, particularly if you expand your business and need to shoot someone in a wireless environment.
I have had four wireless lav mics, from audio technica, to Nady to Samson to my newest and most favorite, the AKG PR81. Trust me, whichever company you choose, do not go cheap on the mic. You will wind up upgrading eventually. I like AKG's. Made in Austria, selectable channels and very, very clean. Bought it for just under $600 at B&H.
Hope this helps. Good luck

The ATW-T101 is the body pack transmitter and the ATW-R100 is the the receiver and sold as the U100 series. I use these and cost me 8 bills each a couple yrs. ago. Now ,if ya shop, perhaps below 7 bills but the flawless no hit and full bodied audio is a requirement. Always build your equipment one piece at a time and carefully pick each one or you will be constantly tossing the cheeper investments and buying quality eventually. Start with quality and save bucks over time. Been there.

Mike is exactly right. You always think you can with something cheaper till you can afford the better mic system. The fact is, you can't afford NOT to have a decent system if you're charging for your services.
I think there's probably many of us who wish we had taken the money we invested in low-end equipment and just purchased what we needed when we started. It would have eliminated many headaches and actually cost LESS than what we ended up spending.
Things are probably tight right now, but don't skimp on the camera or microphones that you'll be using. If you're selling audio and video services you need to make sure you have a quality product to give them.

Ok I am probably the least experienced WEDDING videogrpher here, and I too could not afford the cost of some of the nicer systems. I purchased the Azden 500 setup with a wireless mic and a lav and I have had no problems. I shoot outdoors a great deal and indoors at medium sized convention centers and I have had NO cut-outs ever. The samson micro series is also a great little setup for those needing a low cost start-up system. I would tell you to save your pennies and go top of the line but if you dont have it you dont have it. eh? I have included a link to B&H's wireless page if you need some help in price comparison.

Paul is right, Baked Beans cans work great. Don't forget though that you can also use the beans. I use the juice to lube the tape heads in my XL1- but the beans work great as cheap disposable lav mics. The quality is comparable to the Sony ECM 77- if you have good beans that is. Black-eyed peas are good also, but they have more of a cardioid pattern.

Don't go low cost anything.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Go with a Mini Disc and a good lapel mic... this is 10 thousand times better than a low cost wireless system unless you are really into pops and static.

Very funny folks...
For what camera your gonna use this mic? Size matter! How many Mics?
Everyone has his way. I bought a Azden WRD PRO diversity for $164 about 5 years ago.(still in this price) Never has a dropout.. good service (For my X2b)
But now for my VX 2000 is too big
You need a good pacience to sync video using MD.
