Hi Howard,

Funny clip. I would put the blame elsewhere: "Photographer decides to head-bang camera" Cool Hope you are well.
Did I mention that at my now 'part-time' job at the radio station I have a guy from South Africa working alongside me. The difference between Afrikaans and Dutch is sometimes bigger then I would have thought. Latest example: "Ik vraag u verschooning", he thought he was excusing himself, but due to some prior conversation I understood this as "Can you change my diaper". Crazy

I agree, Niels.

"Sam hits Canadian photographer over the head", somehow seems to "grab the eye".

Yes - we are well, thank you.

Cheers

Clearly the person doing the fouling is the photographer. Sam had her position, and didn't move. I've noticed that photographers are good for seeing what is in front of them, but don't always notice what is around them, whereas videographers have to be aware of what is around them as we move with our shots.

Penalty: Depending on your preference, free throw for Sam or yellow card to the photographer. Cool

Hi Allan

The photographer is an OK person. We enjoyed meeting and working with her. Maybe Sam crept up, unnoticed? Yesterday, I stepped backwards onto a child, who seemed to come out of nowhere. Nobody was hurt and these things happen.

Cheers

Hi Chris

We are both well, thank you! My accountant tells me that I should spend less time on VU. Our Creative Director thinks the opposite.

Hi Howard,

Your footage reminds me when I'm doing a Bridal Waltz, and there are the beaming parents so proud of their little 1-2 yr olds running around the dance floor, oblivious to the danger as their kids are about to get mangled by my dolly as I track backwards. Apparently I am supposed to be able to see backwards as I am glued to the viewfinder, they don't seem to consider that not only can't I see them, but that I'll run over them and keep filming. I can run over children any time, the bridal waltz I can't do again.

Just kidding. But I wouldn't stop filming.

It all sounded very polite to me. It's never a bad idea to warn people you are right behind them...but not always easy.

Maybe she should have had something heavier, like a .308!

I only know the latter. In the late 60s, I knew it back to front. I always wondered what would happen if we got into a firefight? I was supposed to be a Troop Commander but had never been tested under fire. My brother, who was a married man and a part time soldier got called up and they were in a contact their first day at "The Sharp End".

Oh well, back to shooting videos - where you only have to worry about Canadian photographers. Laugh

Re: [Howard Neill] Sam hits Canadian photographer over the head with Canon WD-50 - clip [In reply to] Can't Post

I was taping a cocktail hour a few years ago and was standing still, camera to face, and when I completed a shot I just dropped my arm (and camera) straight down to my side. Well, this little kid who'd been running all over the place chose to run right beneath the arc of my arm coming down and the hard, sharp metal ring edge of the Canon WD-58 lens caught him solidly right on top of his little skull and he ran crying to his parents.

I was pretty worried at first, but then found that the parents were more embarrassed than anything about their kids behavior because they saw it happen and knew it was not my fault.
