Serial ATA hard drives Can't Post

I have the ASUS P4PE motherboard witch supports serial ATA.
I have been using only IDE`s but as workloads increase, I decided to get a new hard drive.
Hopefully this SATA allows me to have one DVD/CD burner and 4 hard drives attached and working at one time.
I purchased a Seagate SATA(V) 120 gig yesterday and have discovered the power supply plug is different to what I seem to have available in my system. The SATA is connected to the motherboard and the drive, but I`m stuck without power.
Unfortunately (and fortunately) it`s a public holiday here in Brisbane, Australia so I cannot get any support from Seagate until Monday.
I will try the PC store tomorrow hoping there is just a power connecter that is needed(or maybe its staring at me).
If anyone has experience with this problem, help will be appreciated.
Failing experience the team here, I will post back when all is working and let you know how it all works.
Thanks,
Daryl.

Re: Serial ATA hard drives Can't Post

I found this info while searching the net.
Looks like the shop either hands over a cable, or a refund tomorrow.
I did get a serial ATA cable with the motherboard, but no power.
Here`s what I found:
I have recently been made of aware of some drives being sold on Ebay. I have a few words of caution for those giddy buyers; "don't buy it unless you have the SATA power cable." SATA power cable? What the hell are you talking about, Andrew? Apparently, this is something that very few people are aware of. Those OEM SATA drives you buy off of Ebay, Pricegrabber, Pricewatch, etc.. will do you no good without a SATA power cable. Instead, you probably will have a perfectly good drive, for which you spent close to $200, just lying around. Obviously, you can't use a hard drive if you can't get any power to it. The new SATA IDE interface comes with its own revamping of the power input, as well. Very much like the SATA IDE interface, the SATA power cable is shaped like an "L" due to the keyed connector. However, the power cable has fifteen pins, where the SATA IDE cable has seven. For me, it was a bit odd to see a power cable overshadowing the data interface, but I am definitely not going to complain. Where can you get these guys? Like the SATA IDE cables, they should be available in stores soon. I doubt, though, that you will find the power cables in motherboard packages; since you don't even get the regular 4-pin HDD connectors in them.
Daryl.
