Still photo ability Can't Post

Not trying to start another argument- honest!
It seems that you can't buy a new mid-range camcorder without still capability. It isn't something I use at the moment but I am always looking for new revenue streams.
How do you use yours at the moment? The odd still, montage stills, freeze frame?

I only use mine for casual stills, or for snapping a pic of something to put up for sale on eBay. Not for paying customers at all. Of course, my still capability is limited to a 640x480 jpeg. Newer camcorders have a higher pixel count for their still function.
As an aside, digital still cameras mostly can take short video clips, too...with, in most cases, limited frame rate and duration. We're coming closer to the day when one device will do a creditable job in both still and motion media.

Yes. Looking at the new ranges in the UK, it won't be long at all before it is 1 unit and then we are going to be expected to be proficient at stills and video. By looking at the options now, I hope to get some strategy of how to incorporate stills smoothly.

I use mine to take cutaway shots, environment shots (buildings, flowers, pools, spur of the moment stills). The thing I like about it is that my camera will shoot at 720x480 or 1152x864. Neither of these resolutions is good for print, but they work out VERY crisp on a TV display which is where I use them. The good thing about it is that it is quite quick, and one memory stick can hold 60-120 stills and can be swapped out in about 5 seconds. It can help get that "just right" still shot for a montage or to insert in the video. And if you miss the moment, just erase it!
