TV as second monitor Can't Post

Posted this question on tech Q&A but thought I would put it here also. How difficult is it to use a TV as a second monitor for real time preview. I have Matroxrt2500 that I have not set up since it was damaged in shipping and needs to go back. The ports for the monitors look like regular PC monitor ports. Is there an adapter to use a TV? Can I use any old color TV? Can I use a regular NTSC PC monitor for my editing? Is it more effective to use a TV on a dual monitor set up as opposed to 2 NTSC monitors?
