Team Videographer to NBA Coach Can't Post

I read in the paper that Pat Riley just retired as coach of the NBA team in Miami.

He appointed 37 year old Erik Spolelstra the new coach.

Erik started with the team in 1995 as a videographer who made videos to play at the annual holiday parties.

From what little I could find, he was instrumental in helping some of the players make improvements in their performance.

How cool is that?

I was hired to produce a video for a pharmaceutical company holiday party for a couple of years in a row. I then told one of the executives that I produce other types of video and could I come to her office and show her. She agreed and I got hired to produce an employee orientation video and now oversee their video and av needs at their leadership meetings across the country.

Not as cool as being an NBA coach but I am happy to have it.

Coach Erik is the NBA's youngest coach.

I'm next in line to coach The Philadelphia Eagles. Not because of my video skills, just because my last name is next in the alphabet behind Andy Reid and the Eagles suck so bad that Jeffries Lurie is ready to try anything. I know I can do a great job. I've got a solid plan to score lots of runs. Wink

Hey I taped the Professional Womens Football game (Pittsburgh vs. Boston) last weekend. Maybe there's something in the future for me?CoolCool

Seriously though, it's good to see someone moving vertically in this crazy business. With web video growing exponentially we'll probably have more stories about wedding videographers hired by corporations.

Hi John,

Cool story. It's similar to Joel Osteen's story. He had never preached from his Father's pulpit or written a book. He produced the television show for his Father for many years. When his Father passed away they didn't know who could possibly fill his shoes. Joel steps up and takes the church to a new level.
