Thank you Laura Randall Can't Post

Hey Guys,

The DFWPVA had the honor of hosting Laura Randall of Edit 1 Media last night at our meeting and I have to say that if you're the president of a local PVA, strongly consider her to come to your organization to speak. Great job Laura and hope you had fun in TX.

Re: [chriswatson] Thank you Laura Randall [In reply to] Can't Post

I listened to the Podcast Laura did for The 4EVER group. I was brought to tears about how she got into the video business in the first place. My husband saw me standing there ironing his uniform shirts with the earbuds in my ears and tears streaming down my face and became concerned about my sanity until I made him listen to it. I was then inspired to go out and buy some plastic boxes and labels so I could clean out and organize my office. (Listen to the podcast, you'll understand)

Laura, (and Chris Watson too!) if you are ever in Southern California, I know a bunch of people who would love to hear you speak.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.

Hey Peggy,

Thanks for the invite. I would love to come out that way if there's interest. Let's see what we can do to make that happen.

Now that is just the sweetest thing! Not that you were in tears, but that your were ironing your husbands uniforms! Sly

Thank you.

Actually I find ironing relaxing. It allows me to either watch TV or listen to my i-pod while still feeling like I'm getting something accomplished. Besides, I love seeing a man in a nicely pressed uniform and if I have to press it myself, so be it.

Serious? You don't know Edit1Media.

My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said "happy" and they told me I didn't understand the question.
I told them they didn't understand life.

Re: [chriswatson] Thank you Laura Randall [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks, ya'll (I still can't get that Texan drawl out of my head yet!). I had such a great time in Dallas! Sorry we didn't get to really spend any time together, Chris. LaDonna and Brian had me on a pretty strict schedule! LOL!!

The DFWPVA couldn't have been any nicer! You guys have a GREAT bunch of people there and I enjoyed every minute!

While I was in Dallas I did a Same Day Edit with LaDonna which I'll post later on in the Members Only Forum. I tried playing it off my laptop during my presentation at the DFWPVA and proved exactly why you should NEVER do it that way! Darned thing was hiccuping like crazy!

Anyway, thanks for the props, Chris! Glad I at least got to watch some of that wedding and give you a big hug!

Re: [videochicke] Thank you Laura Randall [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Julie!

I spoke about Same Day Edits mixed in with some other miscellaneous stuff. I tweaked it to include some info on some Corpoate SDE's and quick turn around videos. I also brought my camera bag like how I pack for shooting trips including my Firestore drive. It was amazing how much people were digging through everything and checking it all out! I think I should start getting some kickbacks from KATA and Firestore....LOL!!!

We also discussed the SDE which I shot that weekend in Dallas with LaDonna Moore. I showed that video, talked about some of the challenges we had, and showed some reaction video as well.

One thing I've been learning after speaking on the SDE's is that even people who aren't interested in really doing a SDE are learning quite a bit about organizing footage & timelines and creating templates based on the setup I've been using. That's been interesting getting that feedback.

Take care!

Awww...Peggy! That's sweet (the ironing). Yes, it was a very sad way to get into the business, but it's given me a lot of passion for it too.

It would be so fun if Chris Watson and I (and others!) could get to SoCal for some speaking. Neither one of us is too far away, in all reality! I would love to do a California Tour of some of the great studios...just drop by and say Hi, see what people are up to, etc. etc. Actually we would have to start in Portland and check out Shaka Brah's studio, go see Ron Dawson in the Bay Area, then check out John Goolsby, David Robin, etc. etc. etc. Sounds like fun, eh? Maybe that will happen some time...you just never know with me! (hee hee!)

Re: [Edit 1 Media] Thank you Laura Randall [In reply to] Can't Post

Laura did a great presentation for our PVA... it was interesting to see all the different ways you can do an SDE. It can be 'modified' so many ways, but still get a nice response. In our case, I had Laura do an SDE for me Saturday, but because I wanted it to be a surprise I didn't tell the B&G or the parents (or the catering director... who told us the presentation would have to come at the end of the evening, out in the foyer). But the B&G were simply blown away.... it was the only time the entire day when the bride just bawled. As for me, I was amazed at the immediate interest by the guests and family. It was so exciting! Because it was pushed back to later in the evening, Laura 'pushed the envelope' by adding the first dance, toasts, cake cutting.... then she got a devilish look in her eye and said something about adding the exit... but she did make it look so easy!

I could see doing this if you are VERY organized and calm under pressure. I've done live tv and I would say it's like that kind of rush.

Thanks Laura!! When you come back to Texas, we'll show you 'cowtown'! Chris isn't far from there!

Cool I didn't realize ironing was considered so unusual. But, like you, I also have a family and business to take care of so I have to multi-task wherever I can.

Thank you for your inspiration. I'll see what we can do to get you down here.

Hugs.
