Thanks from Chris W Can't Post

Hey Everyone,

Just got in from JAX a few hours ago and wanted to say "Thank You" for those who woke up early (or maybe just stayed up) to go to my seminar on Thursday at 8am and my Live Edit (or as I like to call it, "The Cure for Insomnia") on Tuesday. Those who didn't make it to the LE missed me searching for shots, really bad singing, and having to do all this while Darrel and Glen heckled me. The hard drive with my Live Edit on it is in a bag another person picked up by mistake at the airport and once I get it back this weekend, I'll try and post my interpretation. In the meantime, here's the practice run I uploaded to my site. For some reason it only encoded like the last minute or so. I think it had something to do with me encoding from an in point in the middle of the video. Anyway here it is...

If I do this live edit next year I'm bringing Hot Wings and Hard Liquor. I will not be upstaged by Julie again!

As for the Thursday seminar, I apologize that I had to skip past some stuff but I hope those of you who came to it found the seminar worth losing some sleep over and you came home with some new ideas that you can integrate in your productions. I also hope I took a little bit of the fear and mystery out of the Timeshifting concept and that some of you might give it a shot even if it's on a limited basis. It really opens up the story telling possibilities.

Right now I'm decompressing from the whole week so things are still a blur but I just wanted to do a shout out to the die hards who wake up at 8:00 AM on the last day of a conference as well as those who don't mind watching someone edit for almost 3 hours. Have a good weekend!

Dude, I had to have liquor so I would have at LEAST one person in the audience (although I thought it would be Steve Moses). Why would anyone come see me after already seeing TWO awesome live edits????

Chris,
I took a lot away from both of your seminars. Thank you!!!

Now as to wings or pizza.. doesn't matter to me as long as the hard liquor is there!!!!
Regards,
Richard

Chris,
I did catch part of the live edit.
It was great affirmation and inspiration.
I'll pm you when I get home.

Glen and I had a great time heckling you during your live edit! But honestly, it was the best edit of them all. You're the only one who actually found all the shots and pieced the edit together from scratch in 2.5 hours. Not once did you refer back to your original edit. And it was a good piece too! I know I couldn't have done that.
Congrats Chris!

Congrats to you all. I missed Don's but I caught both Chris and Julies. I enjoyed both approaches to the live edit. Julie really pulled all the stops, with glowing props, alchoholic drinks, and a red siren alarm. lol I'm still shocked I was able to help Julie out in a few spots with my heckle "LOCK YOUR AUDIO"....and reciting the correct name of the "vapor across" plug-in. Wink Very inspiring FCP work.

Chris's was much more subdued- but VERY educational. I'm amazed that he truly built his edit from scratch without a single glance of a previously finished timeline. Chris says he's not a same-day-edit guy but don't believe it even for a second. If you saw the quality of the edit he produced in a mere 2.5 hours you'd be amazed.

Thanks everyone for your time and contributing to our education. It's really much appreciated.

Hey Glen,

Thanks to you and Darrel for staying the whole time. It actually wasn't that bad editing in front of people. Alot more fun than editing by myself. You should try one yourself next year. It's a rush! As for being subdued, I think anything comes across as subdued after the party Julie Hill put together. Thanks again to those who came if only for a few minutes. Much appreciated.

Hi Chris,

It was really great to see your Live Edit. Also, it was very informative for me to see how someone else edits with the same system I use. (Canopus Edius 4.0)

My only complaint: It would have been a much more realistic Live Edit had you been wearing your pajamas. Tongue

Well I was going to wear them but I had concerns for the mental health of those in attendance. Some things just can't be unseen Wink. Too bad I couldn't get a Wi-Fi connection and then it would have been authentic with me checking email and VU while editing. I also want to thank very belatedly Phil Hinkle (Frogman on here) for letting me borrow his laptop. The LE would literally have not been possible without his help. Thanks again!
