The single greatest gig of my life Can't Post

I've done video work in the past for a local radio station in Baltimore, 98 Rock, basically doing short highlight clips of some of their events, all done for free just to get my name in the door with them. Well don't let it be said that donating your time doesn't come back to you in full. I received a call last week from the program director at the station and he offered to fly me down along with the entire 98 Rock air staff to Cancun at the end of April when they broadcast down there. I don't even have to shoot anything. I just have to take the footage that the DJ's will be shooting, put it into my new laptop, and do a quick edit so that the promotions guy can put it up on their website. TALK ABOUT AN AWESOME GIG! A week in Cancun, with airfare and hotel completely taken care of.

Now I just need to find a cheap version of Final Cut Pro 5.1, since my current Academic version doesn't work well with Leopard. Basically the Academic version of Compressor will not work in Leopard and that's one program I really will need down there. I hope to find one onf eBay before I go. Otherwise, I'll have to take my MacBook Pro to the Apple store and have them downgrade the OS from 10.5 to 10.4.

I haven't upgraded to Leopard/FCP 6 just because I can't see what I'd gain. What problems do you have with FCP 5/Compressor? Have you tried a clean install? Academic/Commercial versions are exactly the same, just in different boxes, as far as I know.

You could create a solid partition by setting up a new os on an external and boot off of that. Just load your tiger system discs, your FCP discs, run software update plus add any fonts, filters or third party apps you need and you're all set.

Whenever I try to compress something, I get an error message that says "Unable to connect to background process." I did a total reinstall and everything. There WAS no solution other than having to downgrade to 10.4, and I found this out after a month of time wasted trying to make it work. Academic versions are not upgradeable and somewhere along the line, there was an upgrade for the program that wasn't offered to me because of the version I have. Right now I'm making a disc copy of my main computers hard drive which is in 10.4 onto an external drive. Then I'm going to trying booting the laptop with that instead.

Gotcha. I've had that happen and its really annoying. Are both the computers Intel?

Congratulations John, that's awesome, you deserve it!!!

I upgraded my G5 tower to Leopard and had mucho trouble with the system not booting but able to reboot, hanging on the opening grey screen, weird crashes, and finally not boot at all... I have read of others with similar problems, however it was not an "apple" acknowledge problem, I don't know about now... I had to go back to 10.4 as we finish up deliverables on a feature film I recently edited.

I don't know if you can actually run an older operating system than came with the computer, but it might be possible...

I'll be in town around April 18th, if you have not solved the problem and need help.
