VHS dubbing via DVD Player (?) Can't Post

I just noticed in this newspaper I'm reading that there is a VHS/DVD combo machine out there.
I'm wondering if you could take a mastered DVD of a production and get a better quality VHS dub with a machine like this.
Think about it, a pure, high quality DVD image going directly to tape through circuitry....as opposed to cables.
I don't have to make VHS dubs often, but when I do the quality I get totally depresses me. : ( I'm just wondering if this machine might make a better quality dub possible.

I have a Sony combo VHS/DVD recorder and it does not allow recording to VHS from the DVD. If you use a SVHS cable when connecting DVD to VHS deck it should give you good results. JVC (model #HRS3911U) has a SVHS in and out. Cheaper JVC SVHS VCR only has SVHS out. VHS looks bad now because you're trained to expect digital quality. It will never look as good because it's half the resolution.

I don't know about the dual deck but as Brian mentioned, recording VHS using SVHS cables/inputs makes a big difference. I use an Ocean Matrix Distribution Amp, since I have it set up to make up to 10 copies at once. It was really easy to set up and well worth the cost to be able to duplicate my own tapes for other events, such as Dance Recitals, Graduations, etc. At the time I couldn't afford enough VCR's with S-Video input/output so I bought the BNC connector OM unit with converter cables to connect to the RCA inputs on the VCR's. My output/master VCR does have S-Video output, which helps. Actually, it does a pretty good job, much better than RCA to RCA. The RCA to RCA connection dubbing with no amp badly deteriorates a VHS copy.

I have a GoVideo DVD/VHS combo and we do this all the time. We have made one from DVD and one from miniDV and you can not tell the difference. We are very happy with the results.

I have friends who have done it.
Unfortunately I dont know what the quality was like.
Their player is fairly old now so maybe thats why it worked.
I would suggest to try Chinese brands as they are more likely to have no copyright protection. Even though a lot of them still do.
Very hard to find, but I think it is possible if you shop around.
If you really want to do this, I would take your disc and a blank VHS and go hunting for that made in china label.
If nothing can be found, maybe try 2nd hand for an earlier model.
Then again, you might think this looks like to much time to even try.
Daryl.

Hey
What kind of amps are you talking about (brand/model) I very rarely make VHS dubs but when I have to, the quality is horrible. I often use my miniDV tape and dub it to VHS but with no amp, the quality is depressing. I use a GL2 as the player and Panasonic AG-2570 VCR Pro Line for Recording...

A typical dvd/vhs combo machine cannot record but it simply plays dvd and vhs.
