Varizoom Products Can't Post

Just looking at the new Videomaker mag that came in the mail today and three things caught my attention with the Varizoom ad inside. Firstly the well endowed model demonstrating a camera support (she needs support alright).
The other thing is the Flowpod is now out. Anyone got one yet and care to tell all how it operates? I`m interested mainly in whether the stabilizer works well... if it does - I will get one.
The other thing is the Stealth tripod handle control thingy. There`s a review in the mag that believes the slow zoom capabilities are outstanding. One thing that I`d love to have on my VX2000s is a really slow zoom... the slowest you can get on the W/T rocker isn`t slow enough. Anyone got one of these things? How good are they? It`s expensive but if the zoom works like I hope I`ll get one of those too....

Re: Varizoom Products Can't Post

I haven't used the "Stealth" model but I did have a chance to play with an earlier Varizoom controller. That one had a separate speed dial and zoom rocker. While it COULD be operated smoothly, it took a deal of practice to change speeds while zooming.
I think the new Bogen controller may be easier to use. See Scott Brooks' report on that in a thread a few days down.
I wanna see a user report on the Flow Pod, myself!

Doug Graham

Re: Varizoom Products [In reply to] Can't Post

I have a Varizoom controller (can't remember which model). It can attach to a shoulder support and a mono/tripod. It has a variable zoom control (dial) and focus buttons. I don't use the focus buttons because they're not sensitive enough, however, I use the variable zoom control and love it.
I had to send mine in for service (due to too much strain I put on the cord), and shot two weddings without it. I sorely and artistically missed it.
I recommend it if its in the budget. Don't know how it compares to others.

Ian,
I've been using the Stealth zoom controller with PD150 since about the time the Stealth came out. I like it alot. You have much better control over the zoom of course and the focus is pretty quick also. I love the small size of the part because it fits nicely in my travel case and can go from tripod to monopod to shoulder brace or even just hold it in my hand and operate it. I've heard alot about the Bogen product but have had a chance to see it for real yet so I have no opinion on it.

Re: Varizoom Products [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Ian -
We just received our FlowPod last week. My husband used it at a wedding reception this last weekend. This couple didn't pay for a second camera at the reception so we felt it would be a good time for him to get some practice in.
I think he was rather frustrated by the end of the evening. It'll definitely take some practice. We'll write a report as soon as he's had a chance to get used to it.
We also got a lovely T-shirt with the "FlowPod Model" on the back. I noticed that my husband washed it - - if he wears it in public he's gonna have to walk 10 paces behind me! :)

P.S. My husband also reads this forum so he'll see that threat! ;) --Hi Pat--

Maybe things have changed since then, but I quit reading VideoMaker mag about 10 years ago after buying crappy stuff that they gave glowing reviews to.
It seemed that they never gave a bad review of any product that advertised in their rag.
I hope things have changed since then...

Have them and we love them, bit over price tho, but does a great job. Next thing we are looking to buy from them is that remote control head for about 3K, but need to get the crain first.
All in all they make some goos stuff
