I cannot answer the Laptop question, as for the processor and Ram would depend on how fast do you want to edit. Vegas requirements are low, but I would not like to edit that way. Vegas is easy to learn for most, if you remember that the interface is a little different then Premeire or FCP. In Vegas, you capture the DV clip, drag and drop to the timeline and use the "S" key to make the cuts. Join the clips by using the "F" key or drag the clip and overlap for a dissolve. There are sometimes 3 ways to do the same thing in Vegas. DVD Architect is a good DVD program for being Version 1. With Vegas you have a very good Mpeg encoder and with Architect you have the AC3 encoder. Everthing can be done in Architect, just by opening the avi file completed in Vegas, drag and drop to the Main screen, select "your" backgrounds motion or static for each page, and select the thumbnail images for each chapter that you make either on the Vegas timeline on from the Architect timeline. The thumbnails can also be animated. And of course backgound music can be added. Be aware that for now, you must use the templates in the program. Anyway once you have made your menus, then you prepare and burn your disc. It will tell you what percentage of the disc is available for the bit rate being used. There are many tutorials available for Vegas on other forums. There is a instructional book due out very soon and also a how-to video. Ed Kinnear : What type of laptop would be a good one to run Vegas? How much processor and RAM do I need? Can I edit directly on a external firewire drive? Is Vegas easy to learn? Is Vegas PLus DVD good also? : Coleman
