Yes there are a lot of us with iPhone's, but the hotel has no WiFi and Edge is terrible around here. Maybe 3G iPhone users are fairing better, but the internet is all but unusable for me here (I am posting this from a restaurant with WiFi).

Well, while I agree that there aren't any "rules" governing the contest and it turns into who can network and/or stack the votes the most- you can't tell me that if YOU won you wouldn't use it to promote yourself.

Actually I'm 100% positive Mr. Most Creative Videographer in Philadelphia would plaster it quite prominently on his homepage...along with a bunch of ghost text in ultra small fonts written over and over again at the bottom of the page. Wink

Actually when I discovered that there was no way from stopping somebody from voting for themselves a dozen times (during the first "contest" last year) I pretty much stopped asking people to vote for me and used the site for the only thing it's good for - a free listing with decent Google rankings and a chance to compliment all my favorite vendors in the comments section. With that said I am proud of the fact that of all the videographers listed I am #5 and have not asked a single person to vote for me. And I certainly don't have my editors begging for votes on their site and having all his friends leave silly comments about how great he is.

Would I use it on my site? Depends. If i knew my CLIENTS voted for me I might. Winning by having my friends and relatives vote seems kind of shallow. My friends and relatives already think I am the best videographer in Philadelphia. I don't need them to vote for me to know that.

I might just post on my website that I won 3 gold awards at WEVA and 4 Gold awards at the last GPVA meeting. How many clients do you think would actually go to the sites and see if I was telling the truth? LOL

And I know enough about Google to know not to use ghost text on my site. Google puts people in the sandbox for that kind of shenanigans.

Maybe this varies with the type of clientele your company attracts but I have had quite a few of our couples checking out our awards on various sites and see who else is there. It wouldn't take long for somebody to notice.
