Wow froggy - very touching - very well paced and good strong audio. You Wisconsin fellas seem to be particularly skilled at these types of gigs.

I'm interested to know more about how we recover and identify bodies from the Vietnam War.

Well deserved!

Yea...I know Darrell pretty well....he does awesome work and was my inspiration at putting this one together. I learned alot watching his in the past.

Best I can tell from identifying Vietnam remains (which was all learned over hearing conversations at this funeral) the remains were actually found a few years ago when the US was finally allowed to send in officials to look for remains. I think it happened about 10 years ago. These were found but it wasn't till recently the DNA technology was good enough to get a positive ID.

The story on these remains is fascinating. When they went to the village looking for him they found a lady who was there and witnessed when the shot him and led them right to the shallow grave. Because of the acidic soil all that remained was a few rib and arm bones and they found a button that matched what he would have had on his uniform. There were only a few small bones in that casket.

I found it incredibly interesting how the Marines travelled with the body from Hawaii where the remains were identified and each leg of the trip they went to great lengths to make sure the flag was placed properly before the casket came off the plane. They also had to make sure and keep track of what end of the casket was the "head" so the flag could be properly placed on it and secured. It is wonderful the length our military goes to assuring these soldiers are honored properly. I don't care how many tax dollars it cost to honor these soldiers this way it is worth every penny...ok....better not get political now! Wink

Patrick, I am so glad you won with that demo. I remember when you posted it and got some flack for using that song because it's not a love song. I think one way to take wedding videos in a cool new direction is to get away from the sappy love songs.

I did an SDE last weekend to Breathe In Breathe Out by Mat Kearney, which could be interpreted as a song about hold on for life.

I voted for you for ReFrame New Orleans and if there are any seats left for Austin after I get back I will probably go to Austin just to meet and learn from you.

Keith & Jen, beside the obivious, the highlight was playing golf with you and being around your lovely family. You guys put on a incredible seminar on how you grew your business in 6 short years to being one of the best in the mid-west. I just wish everyone on VU could have been there. To all who don't know, Keith & Jen won Gold in Demo at WEVA last year. Laura & I are proud to have taken away the title without any blood in this hard fought category. Wink Pirate Watch Keith & Jen's clips - you will love them. Thanks again Keith - you guys are the best! . Smile

Frogman, I was mesmorized by your tribute, My daughter attended the WEVA seminar as well and she was so taken by the change of pace from the other entries. Tributes are so sensitive and i believe you perfectly captured the event and paid a wonderful tribute to a deserving individual

Thanks....the pace of those types of videos are right up my ally. I thrive on finding emotion and creating it. I am working on the more upbeat energetic style as well but my bread and butter is still romantic and emotional. That video was the coolest story I have ever been involved in. Truly an honor. I have put together a proposal for the 4Ever convention that would have that as the centerpiece. If you saw Alan Naumanns seminar in WEVA then mine would be almost like a supplement to his showing the more elaborate memorial tribute. If accepted the session would revolve around how to get those jobs, how to shoot them and how to build the emotional edit. It was a lot of fun putting it together.

I'm glad you found it well done. I worked hard on that one!

We won a finalist in the Highlight category. I don't have a direct link, but it is the first clip on the Wedding Highlights page of our wedding films at www.VonWeddingFilms.com

It was great to hear a lot of new names being called out at the awards banquet, many of which post here at VU. It was our eighth year in a row to win and it was truly an honor to be listed among so many very talented artists.

Amen to that Mark & Trish and congratulations for 8 years in a row! Smile I think I said this on another post, if all of you look closely at the list of winners, you will see lots of new names and new talent and they are not all west of Hawaii. Wink These awards push some companies to try new styles and break out of the rut, believe me that trickles down to the bride and money floods into your bank account. It's not about that walk to the stage, it's about pushing your talent to places you might not think was possible. Cool

I had a great time at Expo this year - it was great seeing everyone again and the seminars were excellent. Here is the link to my Silver CEA award winning video in the Theatrical Productions Category. The first three videos were part of the award entry and featured 2 crane angles and 2 additional angles from the back of the house on tripods. This was my only CEA entry this year and first CEA award.

I filmed the videos on June 3, edited on June 4, and overnight delivered them for the June 5th deadline. Editing for the 10 minutes you see online took just over 8 hours.

3 of the angles were filmed with Sony HVR-Z7U's and the 4th with a Canon XHA1. Color correcting was a challenge between the 2 makes/models as the Canon black levels had to be adjusted and the colors were very flat looking.

Thanks Mark - yeah it was my first, although I did win an Emerald AAA in Stage Events Productions earlier this year. Now all I can think about is what I can do next year to lock-up the first place spot!

This is our Silver for Post Ceremony:

http://davidperryfilms.squarespace.com/...ea-at-weva-2008.html

I was trying to use Steve and Laura's advice and added some audio clips, which I normally don't do on a Post Ceremony.

Congrats to everyone on their awards. I also know there are some great videos that weren't recognized, but keep entering. You gotta believe in yourself and keep going for it. Be the one that says your work is worth entering and you'll be taking a step towards something better.

I agree with the Mayor - the awards are great in the fact that they push us to excel. I have really stepped it up since last year and I already have some creative ideas for taking it to the next level this next year and that's what really matters.

Shawn, I didn't know it was your first CEA either! Smile I thought I remembered another one, got it confused with that other award I guess. Way to go! I just wish Amanda could have been there, and I'm glad you weren't late for the dinner. We got our first in 2001, a few more in 2002 & 2003 and I thought "Hey this is cool and expected it every year - then came the humbling drought years - zero in 04-05-06 and that was some very creative years for us. Made a comeback last year and that was sweet. I really enjoyed seeing some new names on the list of winners. Many people are reluctant to enter for many reasons - not winning should not be one of them. The process pushes you into new territory and that is a good thing. Congratulations, Laura & I adore you and are so proud of you. Smile

DP - Director of Photography! It works. We have DR, DH, DW and now DP. I can't get you winner to play all the way. Unsure Will try later.
I'm glad you agree with me, it is so true. Of course there is always some ego involved - we are human after all, but it is a small factor.
Movitation for whatever reason is a good thing, your bank account and the brides are the true winners. Congrats and thanks for the mention. Utah is getting too small for you - come West young man. Wink

Its not just eye candy anymore...there a lot more depth and substance now....which is odd..being that you are so superficial.

OK, the secret is out - Daniel has always done all of our editing. Wink Actually that was my concept and a joint effort in the editing and shooting. Thanks Danny Boy, you liked that piece last year and that made us believe we really had something there. Like I said before, that clip is a working demo for us, brings in much business. It's the little demo that didn't give up - all SD - 4x3 - no glide cam - almost all handheld, a bit of tripod - no wide angle or fish. Don't get me wrong, we are now using all of the above , except glide-cam, in moderation.
I believe the power is in the face - not the move. And I don't mean we don't like glide-cams shots, we love them, and we are envious of them at times, but they just don't work with our hurried run and gun and small crews. Unsure Check out Daniel's latest SDE for a WOW experience.Smile
