These examples from DGates and Loi Banh look really good and certainly put mine to shame. They also look like a lot of work too and I`m not very proficient in Photoshop. I like the cover to have a bit of mystery as to what`s contained in the video, with less pictures to give away what`s inside... just a thought. One thing though, I know it`s come up before recently but where does one obtain the DVD video logo? : I like the idea of providing clients with something more substantial than : printed DVD covers in plastic cases. There are some very beautiful and modern : designs for photographic albums, ranging from the standard leather albums to : personalized, handcrafted silk and velvet albums. : As it stands, we're stuck with plastic DVD cases that are really designed more : like books, to be placed on shelves with only the spines showing. A more : prominent display would be to enclose the DVD in a picture-frame format. : Something classy enough to be placed on a coffee table or TV set. I'm looking : into a scratch-resistant Lexan frame with the DVD disc held in place in the : middle. A brushed aluminum or metal backing, and some sort of laser : engraving of the couples name, and wedding date. I don't think such a case : exists, but at least I have an idea of what it should look like in my head. It'll : have a modern 21st century look & feel to complement the technological : achievements that pristine DVD video offers. : Anyway, it's something I'm thinking of offering in 2004, but for now, I'm using : amaray DVD cases with custom designed cover art. Here are some of my recent : designs. : <img src="http://www.bluecoremedia.com/client/amaray.jpg"> : I generally ask my clients to pick 5 of their favourite pictures, and from those, : I'll select the best 2 images and place them on the front cover, making sure I : select pictures that complement each other. Both front cover designs reflect : this. These are scanned from proofs that the client provides. In terms of : copyright, I ask the photographers if I can use their pictures, and all have so far : granted permission. Be sure to include their credits (6 point Arial is my font : style of choice). : MY DESIGN GUIDES: Each person has their own preference and guidelines.. here : are mine. To simplify the cover art, I generally just have their first names and : wedding date on the front cover. I dont include "the wedding of" in the title as : a picture of a gal in a wedding dress is self-explanatory. The back cover has : more pics, either photos or video stills, and a list of chapter selections. I've : done away with listing the bridal party, for 2 reasons. 1. Chances of typos : increase 2. Is it really necessary? If it's a small party, then I might fit it in : somewhere. : Front covers get the sepia/duotone treatment, I hardly ever use full colour for : the front. I find full colour front page designs too distracting. Just take a look : around your local Blockbuster video store, and you'll see most cover design : work is single colour tinted, or highly stylized for dramatic genres. Cartoons : and comedies seem to be the exception. Back pages are typically full colour : and contain all the type and misc info. The second design example is more : "movie" like with all the credits listed in small type on the bottom half. : Loi Banh : bluecore media
