XH-A1 30F HDV capture problem Can't Post

When I capture 30F HDV footage from XHA1 with Vegas 8, I get series of 1MB clips. But with HDV footage from the FX1, no problem whatsoever. 30F HDV XHA1 footage won;t play on an FX1.

anyone who has encountered this problem

tnx

Dominic,
In my resaerch of the A1, I have found that version 8 doesn't capture 30f. You have to either capture with 7 or use something like cineform to capture. Flubbity dub on Sony' part but there you go. Hopefully they will add that back into 8 at some point. Cue Jerome in 5 4 3 2 1...

This is a major problem with Sony Vegas 8. It does not support the "F" formats from Canon cameras. If you use Vegas, you cripple your XH-A1.

I've been told Vegas 7 handles it fine. Not sure about Premiere as I don't use it.

Darrell,

Didn't you run into this issue a couple weeks ago? How did you end up resolving it?

I used HDV Split to capture the footage but Vegas still didn't like working with the footage. Now I'm shooting everything in 60i until Sony fixes this problem.

You're funny Bill. Laugh

Dominic, to use Vegas8 with sony f modes, you're gonna need to buy cineform neo hdv for $249. It works. You can get by with just capturing it as 24p HDV M2T files and not have to use the cineform codec files (avi or mov) and keep workflow the same, just a different capture utility. Its not that Vegas8 doesn't handle it correctly, it just doesn't CAPTURE it correctly.

If 24f or 30f is that important, then it might be worth the $249... if not, shoot 60i as if you do slomos then it will look better anyways--but that's your call.

Technology. It does wonders if you know how to use it.

Not quite Jerome. I used HDV Split to capture 24f footage and Vegas had trouble accepting it. There is something Vegas does not like about .mt2 files that are shot in the "F" modes. Cineform probably works because there is no compression on the file.
