Your Demo - DVD or VHS?? Can't Post

Do you send your demo out on VHS or DVD?
All of our packages come standard on DVD, yet we send our demo on VHS. We are starting to think that we might get a higher booking % if we send our demo on DVD. Does the extra cost of producting a dvd demo pay for itself by giving a better first impression??

I give them a choice of DVD or VHS when I send out a demo. 9 out of 10 pick DVD. It's almost weird when they pick VHS. I mail out first-class, so it cost me alittle more, but they get it quicker. I figure it costs me about $5 a demo, with disc cost, cases and mailing. I'm not sure if the actual bookings increase by mailing DVD's, but I'm more corcerned with what the competition's mailing them. If they see their DVD and then watch my demo on VHS, I come up short.

Yes, it does. I put together a demo on DVD I recently updated. I have only lost
a two bookings since sending it out (one bride was cheap, one had to do with
the photographers contract). I get back most of them, but the difference in
cost is about $1.25. when they see the cover printed on photopaper and the
menus, they are sold. I even included a little bio about my production
techniques and myself. take the time to do it, it will be so worth it!

"I get back most of them"
How do you go about getting them back?

when I meet with them to book, they give them back. if they mention they have friends getting married, I tell them to keep it and pass it around. Tis the cost of doing bidness!

I`ve always felt awkward asking for demo`s back. I`ve used VHS only so far but worry about extra cost of DVDs especially if they don`t want to book. The cost of demos has been high for us in our fledgling business, I know it`s my own fault for not making them better and booking a higher percentage. All in good time.

Hi Rick,
I have my demo on DVD and VHS and almost always send the VHS. I've had two potential clients call and say the DVD demo I'd sent won't play. What kind of impression does that send? I produce DVD's with iDVD3 on Verbatim discs so it can't be anything I'm doing wrong. I'd rather be sure they get something they can watch and deal with DVD incompatibility problems after the wedding is done...
