Z7 is not very far behind the Ex1 and much better than a Z1.

It certainly isnt as clean as the EX1 thats for dang sure...

On a side note.....
David Perry's work is phenominal.. I have no clue why his stuff is not referenced here more.... I guess because he doesnt post.. but he certainly deserves any and all recognition he can get from the industry!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just out of curiosity Daniel How did your Sony V1 footage compare to the EX1? Did they match whenever you shot an event or totally mismatch?

Thanks,

As i posted before, that is the main reason i bought another EX1 so quickly. i was going to be content to use one EX with my V1s and do a slow transition into tapeless..but the difference was so noticable i had to put a lot of my V1 footage in BW.

The EX is impressive (as it should be for $6500). They just need to "dumb" that thing down a bit and shave off $3k. Tongue

Yeah, if only they would drop those 3 1/2" HD CMOS chips into a cheap PD170 MiniDV body, and sell them for $3200, THEN we'd have a great wedding video camera. Cool Of course, that wouldn't be a very smart business decision for Sony. Laugh

I would pay $3200 for that. Not sure how much those 1/2" chips cost to make or how fast that cost actually drops over time. I don't even know if that's the big ticket item in the these things anyway - maybe the flash memory technology is what puts this camera out of reach for me. (which I find somewhat strange considering all the intricate crap and moving parts in a tape based system).

But what the hell do I know? I just spent 20 minutes trying to photoshop a hair off my monitor. Blush

I can't even imagine how fast these things would fly off the shelf.

And Sony ... please put on a longer lens while you're at it.

What I don't get is why they don't just take the Z7U and drop the removable lens to make a less expensive version with improved low-light over the V1U at a similar price. That's the camera a lot of people have been waiting for, and I'm surprised they haven't done it yet with all the other variations they've tried.

I have to say, I agree 100%.

Removable lenses, while great for non-wedding work, is not as practical for event work. The V1 is a great camera except for lowlight so improving the lowlight and and adding CF card option would be a great cam and perfect for most in our field.

Hey everyone! I just signed up and yes, I think James is a frickin' genius Wink

I'm on vacation and finally signed up on all the forums... but anyway - I did another shoot off with all the Canons vs the EX1 and Z7. I'll try and post that when I get back if anyone is interested. This time around I think I did a better job in comparing the Z7 and EX1 with my WB and gain settings since I know a little bit more about these cameras.
