? For Using External Harddrive. Help Appreciated! Can't Post

We are getting back into wedding videography up here in Central Wisconsin. Does anyone load their captured AVIs onto an external hard drive and then edit (I use Vegas). Do you experience Lag? If you do... what drive works? Does it have to be firewire or USB 2.0?

Thanks!

Tera

I travel frequently and edit via the laptop with Vegas using external drives via USB2...even 5400rpm 2.5 drives without any hiccups....

We are in Wisconsin Rapids. We used to have a company in Nashville but last wedding was 2005. Trying to go over what has changed in the last 3 years.

How are things up here for you? I am surprised by some of the prices. (you were lucky to get 1000-1200 back in 03-05 in Nashville). It seems most brides are starting to spend over 2k?

Not much has changed in Nashville

In answer to your question about externals, I use them all the time with Vegas, switching back and forth between my desktop and laptop, for capture, edit, and render, and have never had a problem. The ones I use are USB2 7,200 rpm.

Hi Art!

Do you advertise on wedj.com? That seemed to be a hot spot to get leads in Nashville. Worked well for us back then.

Appreciate everyones replies. This will make it easier to switch between desktop and laptop. =) I assume you all just put the vegas working file on the hard drive as well. That way you can pull it up no matter what computer?

Also it seems video is still same (we use canon gl1s..) HD looks intriguing but I know not many of the brides and grooms are there yet. I see you have an HD upgrade... have people taken this? Paid for your initial investment? (seems to be about min 5k when you factor in burner and cams)

I edit on my laptop using and external drive called and eSATA. I had to get a laptop with a eSATA slot and then buy a eSATA card. It works great and is super fast.

I edit on Macs with an external USB 2.0 drive with no problems. This way i can take it back and forth from my Dual G5 Mac tower and my Intel iMac.
