caturing from VHS Can't Post

Hello Everyone, I am just starting out in the wedding video business and my plan is to work with another videographer and him do the actual footage and then I take the footage provided to me on vhs and capture into my computer to edit and charter out and burn to DVD. The first tapes I did worked fine but know I seem to have a problem with color. The captured tape looks purple and green and I even tired a commerical WHS tape and it looked the same. Any idea what is going on and feedback on the senrio we are using.
Thanks
Tina

Re: caturing from VHS Can't Post

Does your videographer have a DV cam and do you have a firewire port for DV capture.
Do you do the camcorder to VHS transfer or him ?
Did the color problem start on the origainal(raw footage), VHS or PC.
We all started with a budget but if you have a DV capture device It would be wise to not even use VHS during capture.
A bit more information would help for feedback.
Camera he uses, and your capture device.
Daryl.

I don't know what's going on, but your process is losing quality unnecessarily. You should be capturing directly from the camera original DV tapes, or a Firewire copy of them. Dubbing to VHS introduces a serious quality hit.

Tina,
You must do everything! you can to change your current workflow. I'm going to be a little more direct than the others...working from VHS dubs is unacceptable in todays digital enviroment...look I realise there can be money problems to begin with but you must focus all your current resources on obtaining the digital camera masters to ingest directly into your NLE.
