dvd paper labels Can't Post

The DVD Studio Pro how-to book I'm studying strongly advises against using printer paper labels on dvds because it says that if they are even slightly off perfectly center, they may mistrack. Feedback?
The thermal printed blanks offerred by the Vancouver company sound useful and affordable for the long run.

This issue has come up more than a few times. If you use a CD Stomper or similar device, the label won't be off slightly, because it centers it automatically. I can see where manually doing it might be a problem.

I’ve been using Neato glossy labels on my CDs for a long time so I decided to try them on my DVDs. I use the applicator that came with my SureThing CD Labeling software. It works great and I haven’t had any playback problems.

Re: dvd paper labels [In reply to] Can't Post

Again, we have heard this, but no one has come forward and actually presented evidence of this. If they use a cheap paper label, than yes it could happen. I have creating DVDs for 2 years, with no problems using paper labels. I have been reading most forums that deal with DVDs and still have not read anywhere about an actuall incident.
I do however suggest that you use quality paper labels and insure that they are put on properly. And of course there is a proper way of storing a disc. Heat, humidity, etc will have an effect through the years on any paper label.
So if you want to feel more secure, buy a DVD/CD printer and use printable discs.

I think the label would have to be a long way off center to cause any playback problem. I get sent DVDs for review by various movie studios and all they do is stick a little square label on the bottom of the test pressing. They're so unballanced they rattle in the player, but I've never had any player mis-track because of it.
