live web casting Can't Post

Hi all!!

I just did the yearly wedding fair I attend in Reno Nv, and I found it interesting that three brides asked me if i could broadcast their ceremony live on the web for people who can not attend. I was just wondering if anyone could help me figure out the easiest most cost effective way of possible delivering this service for future clients.

thanks

howard

I'm looking into the same thing, but for the corporate client. Whatever you go with, you're ultimately going to have to have a fat pipe upstream (how many churches will have this???Laugh) to deliver good quality audio/video upload. I'm looking at http://www.adobe.com/...flashmediastreaming/ OR http://www.mogulus.com/broadcast/pricing

There are "free" crap sites out there that do it, but not with good quality.

I think I posted this in the member's forum a while back. I don't know if it's applicable or not ... but a reporter set up her own camera, Blackberry and Skype to broadcast a report.

Link I thought it was pretty darned cool. You need a lot of bandwidth when you're going to go to multiple sites ... but for granny back home that can't make it????? Maybe possible?

Hi Howard #1

We have been asked this a couple of times. http://www.videouniversity.com/...ng=streaming;#428575 As predicted, the clients ran a mile, when they heard the costs.

What we offer now is to post the highlights on the internet as soon as they are ready. We had a recent case, where the FOG was unable to attend the wedding, due to illness. I undertook to post the vows on the internet within 48 hours. I didn't charge for that, but will do in the future.

Cheers

What are you talking here, Jerome? High speed cable?
I would imagine the upload speed could be tested at one
of those "speed test" sites.
And then you'd need to get access to the church's internet so
that involves running a bunch of cable and taping it down.
And will the church go along with this? I guess that's something
the client would have to inquire about. And wouldn't it
basically require someone's full attention dedicated to just
monitoring the whole setup.

I see at your link there, Howard, that you would have planned
to have someone dedicated to just doing that alone. I would think
that if the videog tries to get by running both his cam and
the streaming setup, that the video coverage is going to suffer,
so this route comes at some "cost" to the client.

My guess would have been - and you do confirm it here - that once
the client hears the fee involved, then they will have a change of
heart.

Hi Brack

I think that posting the vows, within 48 hours, is almost as good as live streaming. I am speaking from the point of view of the ones for whom it is intended.

I am sure that it is a lot easier and more stable?

Cheers

Yeah, "fat pipe" is slang for FAST ASS CONNECTION. Yeah, you could get by with moderate, but to get a decent looking and sounding stream to multiple viewers, it would probably be the size of a postage stamp... well, figuratively speaking.

Yes, church would most definitely have to allow it and cabling... probably unless they have a decent wireless router as that could work, but need the "fat pipe" on the modem.

Yes, you would need someone dedicated just to monitoring this the whole time. I'd like to do a 3 cam live switch streamed over the net some day... just to say I did it.

I don't really see this being too viable for weddings, but for my corporate client focus groups, we are going to make this a nice reality soon since a lot of corporations are cutting back on travel expenses... this way, they could all gather in a board room and watch on a LCD Screen or on their computers at their desk as its happening vs. flying, hotel stay, etc.........

Fr0gman talked about it here a while back and said (as I recall)
a person would need 768 kbps on the upstream.

Which is fast around here. It also depends on what quality you want being streamed.

You may recall that, earlier this year in the hidden Members Only forum,
there was an internet "speed test" poll taken of us Members. Most Members, I think, were under the upload speed of 768 - I know I was and I'm on
high-speed cable. So what are the chances a church would have
the 768.
And you mentioned about "quality". Our Fr0gman said the quality you'd
be getting at 768 up is 320x240.

Yup that's about it. 320x240 at full 30fps needs about 768 up speed. The size is really not that bad for viewing. Very few places have that kind of dedicated upspeed. If they do it may be shared thus killing it. You need a dedicated 768 circuit not being shared. Not many churches will have this. I figure if a customer wants this bad enough they will handle the red tape with the church.

If you were doing a wedding in a hotel conference center, they may have the circuit much easier especially if it is a big new one. Those places have the ability to isolate bandwidth to a specific room. This is where you could more easily do it.

Of course someone with a cheapo webcam and a church's wireless access could do it as well but it will be about 10 frames/sec and bad quality but won't cost anything.Wink

Howard, I think I might have found something... will keep update you really soon! Maybe even with a demo! Oh yeah, it'll be good quality and in one test, the video bitrate was only 350K!

Stay tuned... (no pun intended). Ran a test last night and appears to work pretty decent. Gonna tweak some stuff then I'll share.

The TRICASTER from newtek can do the job, you still need a pipeline and someone to host the video.
Triscaster is about the size of two shoe boxes stack on top of each other, allows multiple camera, just google "tricaster"
