premier to vegas(long) Can't Post

I tried vegas a while back(ver 3) and I really didn't like it, basically because I wasn't used to the interface and I had a wedding that needed to be edited. I didn't have time to learn, so I kept editing in premier.
All I really seemed to do, was complain about not knowing where certain editing tools were or pulled my hair, trying to figure out how to do certain things.
Recently I decided to give vegas another chance, downloaded a trial version and began learning the interface. This time I made the wise decision of not editing a wedding but a simple personal project of mine. One that I had no obligation to complete since it was just for fun. This was a good decision on my part, since it allowed me to learn the interface, stress-free.
I continued using premier to finish off some weddings I had. But I was dying to use vegas on a wedding. This past week, I decided to do my first ever wedding project in vegas. I bought the full version 4.0 + DVDA and began working.
Everything turn out great! Capturing, editing and mastering. It all turned out fine. I ran into no problems, not even a single crash.
Things I loved the most was the capture utility, editing workflow, sound tools, video fx(color correction!), among other things. After I finished editing, I put some markers, rendered as mpeg2, import the file into DVDA and spit out a dvd, with custom menu and everything. Although I was tempted to use dvd workshop, I stuck with DVDA and produced a beautiful dvd that I am sure the couple will enjoy.
I edit a lot slower in vegas than I do in premier but I figure I just have to get use to it. For starters, I have yet to pick up on the shortcuts. I am a keyboard shortcut junkie. I've mastered the shortcuts in fcp and premier, so now I am ready for Vegas.
vegas over premier? you bet! over fcp...hmm that's an interesting question, I'd seriously have to take a look at fcp 4.0 to make my final decision on that one. Editing in fcp is just so quick and easy.
I just thought I'd share this with you guys.
Adobe better have some interesting ideas ahead of them otherwise vegas will surely take over. They got my vote already, can't wait for my next vegas editing project.
happy editing everyone,
Sal

cool deal Sal! yeah, I attempted to make the jump, but found out that I didn't have the time to learn as well, and I had projects due...so for the most part Vegas just sits on my pc waiting for me to make THE jump!
I feel the same way you do - sort of impatitent to learn the UI, cuz in Premiere it's like "bam, pow, cut, drag, scrub"...the flow is there, so when I attempt to learn and toy with Vegas it's like starting from scratch....I know Vegas rocks, it's just a matter of going through that learning curve, which isn't that bad.....you wanna talk learning curve, try spending 3 hrs with After Effects trying to make a 5 second clip...hehehe
Thanks Sal...The "jump" always starts with the first step, so this weekend I'm gonna make the same committment as you and take the time to learn....I'll let ya know how it goes.

The interface is definitely different but makes a lot of sense once you learn it. Here are a few things I recommend:
1. Download the newsletters at www.jetdv.com/tts - especially the "Beginner's Corner" column.
2. Search for posts by "rsvp" on the cow. He has a keyboard shortcut PDF file for Vegas and DVDA. (The Vegas help file is also very good in this regard)
3. Ask questions: How to I....?

I know what you mean about AE. First time I started using it, it took me a long time to do even the simplest of things.
well good luck on your jump, I am sure you will do great. It might be a little tough in the begining but keep going. The hardest part is finding the time to learn and taking that first step.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I had read those articles. They are really good ones, I've learned a lot from them.
I've also surfed around the vegas forum on the cow and used their search function to find most/if not all my answers.
Thanks again

How does Storm Edit compare to Vegas Video?
Will it allow simple cuts and transitions like Storm Edit for single camera editing?
