re-filling inkjet printer cartridges? Can't Post

I'm looking to cut down on my printing costs. I've been using an HP printer. It has cartridges that can't be refilled. Has anyone had any luck refilling Canon Inkjet cartridges. I'm looking at the new Canon 1550i printer.
Thanks

check here:
www.extracartridges.com
their ink is cheaper than most refill kits, and they offer free shipping.

Or Straitec refill kit from Sam's Club for $19. Works with my Canon. Has 5 color containers plus 2 blacks. Each container will yield you about 7 refills or more. So that's about 50 refills per kit. Pretty good.

I almost forgot. I am able to refill my Canon cartridges on my Canon S600. I don't know if the model you mentioned would be the same.

Is the colour quality the same as the original ink?

As far as I know, it is. I honestly can't tell the difference. Looks good to me.

Here's the link to the actual kit, although I got mine at Sam's Club.

DON'T USE REFILLS!!!!!!!
As a former partitme Canon employee, you know, the guy you call at the other end of the 1 800 number for your printer promblems, I highly recommend that you don't use refill inks.
The ink is not of the same quality because usually it's a little thiner. Because of this the ink can sometimes get on the print head. In the more expensive Canon printers there are electronic circuits that can short out when the ink comes in contact with them. The print heads are the most expensive part of the printer. When this happens the warranty is voided and you are out of luck. I use to take calls everyday from people who ruined their printers because they used refil inks or even third party inks.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the info. I'm still undecided. I had an Epson a number of years ago that I used to refill. My brother is still using it today. I've also heard of stories where the refills will kill the print head. I'm using an HP printer right now. Each high capacity print cartridge is $96.00. Two of those is the same cost as buying a new canon printer. Refilling saves 60-80% in print costs. Even if I only get 5-10 refills out of it, it still saves me a lot. Not very enviromentally friendly though!

I would stick with Epson and look at bulk ink systems. I know that you can buy them specifically for the Epsons, especially if you print a lot.
Basically, you get a set of containers that hook up by tubing to your printer and draws ink from these containers. When the containers are empty, you just refill those.

The bulk systems are a great idea but a bit out of my price range.
