Video would have been great if there were no kids in it!!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

LOLOL....
:::Applauds:::
great job Cesar.. I enjoyed watching it... Small minor thing was the start..the shake coming from the bushes and the title for the dance reciptal looked like it missed getting a crossfade/disolve to open that title line... other than that it was great especially the part with the mom doing the international cut the friggin video on me now sign with the hand across the throat... lol.
What camera(s) did you use and what editing system? Also the details for the .wmv file...
It's preety cool knowing what you used to get the job done....Kinda like race cars i guess with "what's under the hood?"...
great job once again.

The sound comes through just fine but I have no video image. I'm working on
a Mac using Windows Media Player. Any ideas why I don't see the video - just
the audio?

Under the hood... [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen.
I used an XL1 for the wide shot.
The GL2 was my manned camera.
Up until now I have been using a friend's
XL1 but yesterday my second GL2 came in.
Woohoo!
Both the XL1 and GL2 were side by side so
that I can make minor adjustments to the XL1
since sometimes the curtain would not open all
the way, thus diminishing the need for a full wide.
Both cameras were set to spotlight mode and
auto white balance. I did not go to the rehearsal
and did not feel like having to worry about
doing anything manual. The intro shots were all
manually white balanced and set to manual. All
intro shots were done using the GL2.
No post production color correction was done at all,
both cams seemed to match up just fine using spotlight
mode. I was very happy about that.
I used Vegas +DVD for editing. The intro segment
was thrown together in minutes. I just grabbed
little clips from here and there, trimmed them,
placed them on the timeline, ran Excalibur's gap
wizard and BAM. I had already spent too much time
editing the main program making sure the cuts synced
with the music, while still giving kids equal
screen time (as best I could).
Once I knew the length of the intro, I went back
to Studio 8 (it was a scary moment) and generated a
smart sound clip of that length. Rendered it and
brought it in to Vegas. The intro in this sample
is actually a little shorter than the final version,
that's why the sound does a strange skip in the
middle.
Oh yeah, there were 2 mini discs taped to stage left
and right, but I didn't need to use them except for
occasional voices. The wireless mics that their sound
guy gave them didn't seem to work too well. This is
great because there are entire segments that when the
parents watch the video they will say "oh...that's what
you said, now the story line makes sense."
Happy to answer any more questions. This was my
first recital and I hope to do more. Nice change of pace
from the wedding stuff.

Dang, Cesar, I thought I was watching one of MY recital tapes!!! Exact same format...establishing shot of the outside of the theater, cars arriving, kids getting dressed, parents stressing...then the show. Great minds really DO think alike!
Nice job, bro.

Doug Graham

Thanks Coleman,
I used windows media player 9.
I used the 256Kbps template in Vegas.
I adjusted the template by setting it
to 15 fps and 22KHz mono (audio).
