s-vhs to dub vhs Can't Post

Hi,
I have heard that making dubs from a computer onto vhs tape in an s-vhs recorder is much better than dubs made on a regular vhs recorder. Is this true? I mean, is it possible to make regular vhs copies on a s-vhs machine? If so, what is the cheapest good product out there?
Thanks

It's certainly possible to make VHS tapes on an SVHS machine. The deck will automatically sense the type of tape and default to VHS mode. Consumer SVHS decks are available for around $300 or so. You MAY get better VHS dubs with these machines, but it's not guaranteed. They often have better tape transports and better noise-reduction circuits than their less-expensive VHS brethren. However, I once had an excellent SVHS deck that made TERRIBLE VHS copies (a Sanyo GVR-S-955 if you must know).
Lately, I get the best dubs I've seen in a long time by dubbing DV to VHS in my dual-well Sony WV-DR7 deck. That one's SVHS on the analog side, too.
