I use both, but mostly white. I think for imagery it looks truer, but silver is good for certain effects.

I use the white watershields. Saves me a fortune in white ink.

As stated ... it depends. Some people like to do full color printing on the label. I used to do the same thing, but then changed back to the silver and now only provide text.

If I change to some kind of jewel box then I might reconsider only because I doubt that I will print inserts.

Switched from white exclusively to silver almost exclusively.
What I LIKE about this is the almost holographic appearance of the graphics.
Also, the silver disks are a bit more "forgiving" if your graphics image isn't PERFECTLY aligned.

What I DON'T like is that there's a slight difference, but not so disconcerting, in the way the hub area prints compared to the rest of the disk surface.

We are getting LOTS of positive comments from our individual AND bulk video clients.

Blue tone backgrounds, blacks and many of the darker colors have a nice silvery sheen to them when printed on these.

I doubt if I will go back to white.

I worry about what happens when they put the DVD in and press play not the short time they will look at the DVD during the process of loading it in their DVD player!

I love the silver inkjets - they look so much better imho.

I have been using white, but havent printed anything on them, I just got a cd/dvd printer, and designed a full image label, but that would surely eat up ink, so I think just a title, dvd logo and such would look pretty good on a silver disk rather than a white one.

I use Watershield, white, and take small captures of video, exported as JPEG, use one at top, one on right, and one on left, title and info at bottom. The white background makes the pictures pop, and keeping them small, there is no difficulty with resolution. Great for frame to frame grab, for sports events, cheerleading competitions. Personalized DVDs help in sales (everyone wants to be on the disc) and Uncle Charlie can duplicate the content, but not the nice photos on the disc cover. I print with an Epson R340, and make a space on the template to put a person's name, takes like 5 seconds to personalize it. The more you can personalize a disc the better your odds of a sale. With sports recruitment DVDs, the image on the front becomes a calling card. Occasionally if the photo is dynamic, I will print the full image on the disc. Just a thought.

I agree.
Even removing the color and using the silver ones looks nice,
There is a sample of our design at the top of this page . This one looked good on silver or white, I just prefer silver.

Well, sir, it seems most everybody who responded assumed you were talking about the printing surface.

WTF difference would there be between white and silver in how they play?

The white ones spin faster and make brides look thinner. LaughLaugh

Serioulsy, I think coleman was just saying that all this talk of "prettiness" doesn't mean beans if it won't play or fails after a year.

True, RT. But, first impressions go to the packaging, IMHO.

I like that the white ones make the brides look more...

Actually, if the graphics and packaging look GREAT - the DVD doesn't HAVE to play at all! Cool
