As a quick budget: charge $150 per camera, pay your camera operators $20 per hour. Charge $50 an hour for editing, spend 4 hours editing and that's that. Up-sell would be the original files if they want to keep them for future campus productions. This is hard if the school does not have a production department. They should have a marketing / external relations / alumni department though.

I realize this info could be too little too late.

I may have the slim chance of taping commencement. I would be running sound from house and would have 2 cameras for sure. Third one is in question. I would like to form a bid, but dont want to undercut myself. The problem is of course what is a fair price. They of course would like a 40K production for free. Sure.

The edit would be pretty simple. just footage between the two cameras and footage for the college to archive.

Anyways, I have some inroads, and I know budget had been blown this year. I have an idea for a quote. But would like to see what others say before I look foolish and naive.

If any one also has horror stories of politics or bureaucracy, I am interested in that also.

Wish our church was big enough to have a real media team. We try but with a congration under 100 it it touch. We have AV Projection and had a video mixer for a while till it died and now we have no money to replace it. We film our services and put them on video but it's all from a single wide cam in the back (my old GL2). We have a handycam on a remote above the door but since the mixer is broke we can only do single cam. We have big plans and the vision just not all the equipment we need. Unfortunately we have a 60K steeple repair to do this year so finding an extra thousand for a mixer ain't gonna happen.

We have our dream though. :-). If anyone's church has an extra video mixer they would like to get rid of our church could put it to work. :-).

I am a PREMIERE user of Edius and make my FINAL CUTS X-tra easy in Edius.
