Adding ram breaks premiere?! Can't Post

Here is a weird bug for you. Ever since I added a 256 ram chip to my system, Premiere refuses to preview any project with sound. It tells me that their is not enough memory (!) and that I should choose "Build to disk, play from disk" even though this is already selected. Removing the ram chip fixed the problem. Putting it back in a different slot caused the problem to reoccur. Removing a different (64 meg) chip did not fix the problem. I've had no other problems with this ram other then with premiere. Playback by pressing the "play" button still works, but has always it's own problems.
I do NOT want to have to pull this chip out in order to use premiere. Any ideas for work arounds?
Mac G3 233 mhz tested OS 8.1 and OS 9, 96/352 meg ram. Using premiere 4.2.1 (I found premiere 5.1 to be unusable.)

I might sugest that you run OS 9.1 (most recent update) as it sounds like a OS bug and not one with the machine... I have been using Premiere 5.1 without any difficulty, an it ran even better after I added the ram!...also, trash the premiere preferences file and see if that helps.... weird things do happen, no doubt about it....

Bug fix: Run more programs! [In reply to] Can't Post

The last time I swapped out the ram, I put it back in a different slot. (It's now in the one farthest from the one that came with the mac. before it was in the middle.) Now I can get Premiere's preview working as long as I launch several other programs first to use up the ram!

I think I'd better run the "ram checker" to see if OS X will object to this ram. Remember the good old days when macs were easy to use?

They still are easy to use, heres a couple things to try.
#1 rebuild the desktop, to do this hold down option as the computer starts up. This helps your computer remember how much RAM you have and how to use it.
#2 Look in the Apple system profiler and make sure that your new RAM is 100% compatable with the old. The old may now be too slow and unmatched making problems.
#3 Check how much RAM is allocated to Premiere and make it set to the recommended.
Good luck!
