Hi guys,
Do we get to see a draft first before delivery? how to respond...

I didnt want to say "no" but atleast I wanted to say something that is similar and explain a little bit that we don't do reviews/drafts before delivery of our wedding films.

any suggestions how to say it nicely?

I just tell 'em "no" straight out when they ask. If they're
looking for someone who does drafts, maybe best for them
to move along to someone who's a better fit for them.

I always do web previews of my videos because I don't want to have to reburn DVDs, etc, so once they approve everything online, then the DVDs are made and delivered. Any changes from that point, unless it is a problem with the DVD, would be billable.

possibly, but the nitpicking and re-edits would probably come up anyway, so best to head them off early.

Not necessarily! I've never provided preview/draft copies and
I don't get re-edit requests. Have you ever tried going without
doing the previews?

No, but I have only had one re-edit request and it wasn't even my fault. The bride didn't inform me they wanted a particular song in the video, so how am I supposed to know that. I only re-edited for them for free because they are also friends (known the groom's family for years), so I was going the extra mile.

Just watch it about prospective clients who inquire about draft copies. Could be a RED FLAG for a client you'd rather not have. You haven't even shot the wedding yet and they already have tweaking the video on the mind.

We reply, You picked us because you like our creativity if you want to be able to make changes than just hire anybody and you can tell them how to edit. If there is a technical error such as a glitch or a miss spelling we will re-edit other wise there is a 75.00 and hour re-edit fee. That usually takes care of it. Also we tell them to purchase the raw footage and they can tell us if there is something they want left out.

The only section of the video where I often run into issues that could cause a re-edit is the guest interviews. I do these last thing of the evening and many/most of the interviewed guests are drunk at that point and get pretty disinhibited.

This just recently came up with one of our clients. Of course we'll show a preview and of course you can make changes. We charge $150 per hour.

We used to do this but is was a real PITA. About 1 out of every 8-10 weddings would ask for changes. The changes often hurt the flow of video or we so crazy they had me scratching my head. The real pain was getting a timely response. Even though we had clearly defined timelines for a response I would regularly get request for more time because they were on vacation, their Internet was down, they were sick, etc. Needless to say we ceased offering this. Did we lose customers? Nope and if anything customer satisfaction has gone up.

Oh I don't give them a free reign on changes, it basically is check for misspellings etc, but even with that I now require them to provide me with an electronic version of the credits so I don't have to type them in.

Personally I always felt credits are a bit corny. After my first couple of years I stopped doing them.

Once again I keep hearing "I feel...", but what do the brides think. Especially if you are providing a movie like short form product, I think they fit in nicely.

Let me put it this way then.... the next time you go to the movies, stick around through the credits. How many people take the time to watch them? For me I don't put anything into my wedding films that couples won't want to watch time and time again. Scrolling credits if they watch them at all they will watch just once. Not saying my way is better or the correct way just sharing my experience/opinion.

one more thought .... has a bride ever said they booked you over another company because you did ending credits? I can say we have never lost a job for that reason.

To answer you question have I gained or lost a sale because of credits... no.

You can make credits interesting by putting b-roll footage, stuff that is good but wasn't quite good enough to make the film and they will be watched more than once. Neither right nor wrong.

My statement about what the brides think really more stems from I see so many people in our industry that don't seem to care what the bride thinks and they only do what they want, when their product would be perceived as being even better if they thought about the brides a little more. It really wasn't about the credits, but that is just one example.

Are these people successful? Honestly I would say it's hard to say people don't care about a bride's preferences based on comments in a forum (or other on line outlet) because there is a preception mismatch sometimes between how something is written and another reads/interprets. If a business gets too out of touch with their customer eventually they will fail. Having said that everyone has their own way of doing things. I hated to doing closing credits. They added no value to the main product in my opinion and were just a distraction. I stopped doing them about 7 years ago. Personally if I have decent b-roll that didn't make the main video, I prefer to treat them as outtakes and include them on the DVD as a "special feature".
