AC3 audio compatible with all DVD players Can't Post
Compressing your audio to AC3 format has all kinds of advantages. Not only can you get more content on a DVD, you can burn production DVD's quicker. Is there any downside to compressing the audio into AC3 format? Will this play on all DVD players or do you use PCM for maximum compatibility? Any other downside (other than the length of time needed to do the compression?)

I always use AC3 for weddings and so far have not had any issues with the audio. In my experience it is worth it.

Yes. AC3 is compatible with ALL DVD players.

no compatibility problems. I believe hollywood movies use ac3 audio(someone correct me if I am wrong)
the only disadvantage I can think of is it's the compression part. Anything that is compressed has less resolution. Whether me and you can hear the difference is another question.

I don't think there'd be an issue unless you have a client with a VERY old, like I'm talking 1st generation DVD player. I imagine none of those even work anymore at all, heh.
AC3 uses a good compression algorithm, so the only time anymore that I'd opt for a PCM format would be if I were making an audio DVD, like a concert recording or something. And even then, it would take a LOT of convincing for me to not use AC3 and record and encode in surround sound.

Only if your DVD authoring application can't handle AC3. The players themselves are 100% OK with it, and the audio quality is excellent.
Oh, and it IS an extra export step, at least in some systems (e.g., Sony Vegas)
