Learn how to tap into the vast collection of films and videos of films and videos produced by the U.S. Government. Here are just a few examples of the amazing variety of films and videos. These low-res stills don’t do justice to the stunning original footage. And you won’t believe the range of topics
A few examples of the categories available:
|
Health Care DNA Technology Agriculture Women Working in Non-Traditional Roles Aviation Latin American Indians Marketing and Salesmanship World War II Viet Nam War |
Environment Weather Education Fine Arts Cancer Research Afro-American Studies Seamanship and Small Boats Nursing Virtual Reality The Wright Brothers |
And these are just the tip of the iceberg. The range of subjects will surprise you. Tens of thousands of films and videos have been produced by hundreds of government agencies. The only catch is finding the exact footage you need. Of course there are stock footage houses and researchers who will do the work for you, but they can be expensive even though the videos are in the public domain. Why pay $30 a second to buy this footage through a stock footage house when you can buy the same footage directly from the government for as little as $40 for an entire 10 – 20 minute video!!! Since these films and videos were all produced with taxpayer money, 99% of them are in the public domain. There are literally thousands of films, videos and still photographs you can legally use in your videos. In fact, you don’t even have to be a U.S. citizen to buy or use this footage. Some government collections are also available in PAL.
We’ve also included a Law Enforcement Video Catalog with videos produced by:
Here’s a small sample of the video titles in this catalog: Financial Fraud Women In Federal Law Enforcement Rural Surveillance Telecommunications Fraud Clandestine Drug Labs & The First Responder Characteristics of Firearms Seaport Security DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing
We’ve also included three NASA video catalogs. You can order any of these videos from one special source which carries all the NASA videos. This is where all the NASA footage you see on TV comes from. This private source is producer-friendly and you can order tapes in any format. The tapes are available in NTSC, PAL or SECAM. With so many NASA titles available, you can be overwhelmed so to save you time our producers and editors have evaluated a great many of the NASA videos and share our recommendations for the best titles for use in your video production.
These releases are saved as a simple ascii text file so you don’t have to retype them.
You’ll be amazed at the diversity and sheer quantity of films and videos the government has produced. Just browsing through these lists of video titles is fascinating reading BUT for the ambitious producer the only limit is your imagination! Whether you’re producing SIVs, corporate videos, or TV commercials, this is a great way to give low budget videos a high budget look. My clients love it when I superimpose their logo over the planet earth or other NASA shots. And that’s just the beginning! One ambitious filmmaker produced an irreverent film that’s become an underground classic feature film entitled Atomic Cafe. [2] Public domain footage can make your videos look spectacular and save you a fortune. And, unlike stock footage which usually grants you a one-time use, you can use these copyright-free government videos again and again. When you browse through our CD ROM guide, I’m sure you’ll agree the government spent hundreds of millions of dollars producing these films and videos. Not to mention what they spent on the NASA films alone!
