Greetings ,

Complaining Clients And How They Help Your Video Business

Complaining clients help your business more than clients who praise your business. Sounds crazy, but look at these statistics from “Consumer Complaint Handling in America: An Update Study” by the White House Office of Consumer Affairs.

4% of dissatisfied clients complain
91% of dissatisfied clients won’t do business with you again
80% of dissatisfied clients tell ten people
20% of dissatisfied clients tell 20 people

The customer who complains may help save your business if you handle it correctly. This person is telling you what you are doing wrong. Otherwise, you might never know and you would keep making the same mistake until it drove your business into the ground.

Million Frames Per Second

The Phantom v641 from Vision Research [2] records to an internal RAM memory that can then be downloaded either to a computer, offloaded to a video deck (in 4:2:2 or 4:4:4) or transferred to an optional on-board CineMag solid state flash memory drive. It provides a 4 megapixel 35mm format sensor and greater than 6 gigapixels/second throughput, for full-resolution frame rates of 1450 frames-per-second (fps), and 1920 x 1080 HD-resolution frame rates of 2560 fps.

The Phantom camera line runs from $50,000 to $150,000 depending on specific model and features. It is more likely to be rented like Panavision cameras are. If you were documenting a high speed test crash or other fast motion for a client, the rental cost would be included in what you charge your client. (See Professional Video Producer below.)

There’s a catch to recording at million frames a second. The resolution of the images drops to 128×16. So this isn’t usable, but the fact that it can do a million frames a second means it is only a matter of time before that is not only usable, but embedded in every camera.

An Affordable Camera That Records Lo-Res 320 fps

Fujifilm FinePix HS20 16 MP Digital Camera. While this inexpensive camera records video at a full 1080p HD quality, the 320 fps mode records at only 320 x 112 resolution for 30 seconds. You can raise the resolution by lowering the frames per second (fps) See

All lower priced cameras that can record slow motion, do so by degrading the image. If you have a favorite way of shooting inexpensive slow mo at 200 fps or more, please let me know.
