Whether you use Safari, Microsoft Edge, Chrome or the old Netscape, there’s a great new browser that I think beats them all – the new Firefox Quantum. It’s surprising how good it is. You can easily send a web page to you phone. Just click “Send tab to device” and the article you are reading on your laptop is now on your phone or vice versa. Someone finally gets that we lead multi-browser lives. Quantum beats Chrome, which has 60% of the browser market. Firefox Quantum is faster, smarter and better. The speed is always one beat faster than you expect. You can open a ton of tabs and it won’t freeze the computer because it uses much less memory.
The new “Pocket” in Firefox Quantum is a simple way to save a web page for later viewing. Quantum has a QR code reader built in. And a menu item for copying a URL. Very nice if you’ve ever tried to copy and paste a long URL on a phone. You know how your phone is too bright at night? Quantum has a “Night Mode” which inverts the colors on most white websites.
It allows you to move all the buttons around, or change every color and font, It can let you choose which app opens when you click on an email address. There’s nothing that Chrome can do that that you can’t do faster in Firefox Quantum. The search bar and address bar are combined just like in Chrome. It’s like someone made a list of all the minor annoyances of browsers and corrected them in a new browser. I’ve been so satisfied that I’ve made it my default browser.
The original Netscape Navigator was released in 1994. It was an exciting piece of software that became the most popular browser, accounting for 90% of all web use at its peak. Microsoft responded with Internet Explorer which then became the most popular browser. Internet Explorer has been discontinued as Google Chrome took the lead. Today, the web browser to beat is Firefox Quantum.
